An Amerinet Success Story
Challenge
Leonard J. Chabert Medical Center (LJCMC), a member of the Louisiana State University Health Care Services Division (HCSD) and an Amerinet member since 2001, is always looking for ways to improve quality of care and outcomes for its patients.
“We have successfully collaborated with Amerinet to reduce costs and improve quality on many different projects,” said Shane Robichaux, quality management director for LJCMC. “Therefore, we knew we could turn to them in preparation for The Joint Commission (TJC) survey.”
Solution
Holly Hampe, former Amerinet director of quality and patient safety, visited LJCMC to deliver an Amerinet QualityScoreSM – a customized on-site quality assessment focused on providing a proactive evaluation regarding quality and regulatory compliance through the identification of opportunities to improve patient safety. “Holly’s qualifications and experience in terms of National Patient Safety Goals and TJC standards allowed her to make recommendations for process improvements and survey preparation that were very beneficial,” said Robichaux. “She conducted a mock Joint Commission survey and worked closely with the staff to offer solutions and best practice information.” A few months later, Hampe returned to review LJCMC’s progress and work further with the team on quality improvements.
Outcome
Through the Amerinet QualityScore engagement, LJCMC achieved improvements in clinical outcomes, patient safety, operational quality and regulatory compliance. The facility emerged from its TJC survey with very favorable results and several of Chabert’s sister hospitals have also taken advantage of the Amerinet QualityScore. “As a result of Holly’s presence, I feel we were much better prepared,” said Robichaux. “What really made Holly and Amerinet different, was that, rather than just point out potential problems, she focused on teaching and finding solutions in a non-intimidating, collaborative fashion.”
